These things will make you happier and live longer (Researchers at Mayo Clinic)

 The Power of Kindness

Researchers at Mayo Clinic compiled some data about serving others by volunteering. The studies found that volunteering reduced the risk of depression. Volunteers were more physically and mentally fit. They had lower stress levels, which makes them live longer. We'd expect these results if God intended us to live by good works, kindness, and serving others. We have the "more abundant" life Jesus spoke about if we do what God wants us to do.

Another study—this one by a group of sociologists—followed two thousand people for five years. The researchers were looking for factors in people’s lives that correlated with happiness. So they focused on people who had reported that they were “very happy” over that five-year period. Those “very happy” people volunteered nearly six hours per month on average. Yet another study, published by Carnegie Mellon University, found that adults over fifty who volunteer regularly had lower blood pressure than those who did not.  The scientific evidence is strong: serving others by practicing kindness is good for your health.
